CURRENT NEWS

January 9, 2007

Hello to ongoing readers and welcome to new readers via One Plus Two's Just Post Roundtable.

To new readers: please feel free to explore the site, and if you have any questions or comments, you can send them to me (andrea AT athenadreaming DOT org). While the raffles are on hiatus due to a slump in ticket sales, there are many ways to participate, and many ways to subscribe to the site's feed.

To ongoing readers: I apologize for missing the December update. I assumed that given the holidays, most of you would not notice the gap. And yes, it's true. The raffles are on hiatus. For those who donated raffle goods, thank you again for your generosity, and please hang on to them--when fundraising for Annika becomes more pressing, we will start them up again. I imagine that raffles will restart when Annika is getting closer to transplant time. (For new readers: Annika has recently been relisted for transplant but is not currently close to the top of the list.)

Thanks again for everyone's support.

THE CAMPAIGNS

1. The Direct Donation Children's Organ Transplant Assocation (COTA) Campaign

Donors will receive a receipt for their donations, and donations are tax deductible in the US. All funds donated will go to documented, approved medical expenses not covered by insurance or other government programs. COTA does not rent, share or sell donor lists to other organizations; your information will remain private. And, for those leary of online donations, you can print off the form and donate by mail.

Directions on using buttons.

1. Select an image, below, that you would like to use as a button. Right-click on it, and choose "save as." Save the image to your machine. Then upload it to an online account (flickr or other image-hosting service) and write down the location in full. It will look like this: http://www.thewebsiteaddress.com/buttonname.jpg

2. On your website or blog template, put the following code in the location you want the button to appear:

<p><a href="http://www.athenadreaming.org/annika"><img src="http://www.thewebsiteaddress.com/buttonname.jpg"></a></p>

You can cut and paste the above: make sure to remember to replace the image's website address with wherever you've stored your image.

2. Crafty Raffle Campaigns

See the Raffle Page for prizes, and how to enter and win.

You can participate by making donations or purchasing tickets. Contact Andrea if you would like to donate a raffle item.

3. EBay Auction Campaigns

Set up an auction on EBay. Send me a picture of the item and a link to the EBay auction; both will be posted here. All proceeds should be donated to Annika's COTA account.

4. The Virtual Community Casserole Campaign

Are you the kind of person who brings friends and neighbours a casserole when they're having a rough time? Do it on the internet: figure how much money you would normally spend to prepare and deliver a casserole or other similar item to a neighbour or friend, and donate the equivalent to the COTA account. Recipes used to calculate the amounts may be collected into a cookbook. Visit the Casserole Campaign page to learn more about how it works, see examples and get ideas. Also! Buttons Available.

5. Bake Sale Etc. Campaign

Have a bake sale or other community fundraiser, either IRL or online. Donate the money to the COTA account.

6. Artists for Annika Campaign

Laurie will donate the proceeds of either of these pieces of jewelery to Annika's COTA account if the purchaser mentions Annika. Interested persons can contact Laurie directly for details.

Victoria is a professional musician and singer who performs at functions within about a two-hour drive of Pittsburgh. Anyone looking to hire a singer or pianist for an event can contact her, and her regular fee for performances will be donated to Annika's COTA campaign.
